Ye Horns Inn Restaurant Review

When we arrived at Ye Horn Inn we noticed how traditional the pub feels! We were greeted with a very friendly welcome and seated in the bar area which was unusually located behind the bar – we later discovered there are only 3 other pubs in the country with a drinking area behind the bar! We then chose our drinks from the vast wine list.

Our drinks arrived at the same time as our menus. We were offered a Table d’hôte Set Menu of 3 courses for £19.50 and the A la Carte Menu which lets you choose from a variety of delicious dishes. The menus were very easy to to look through, however the choice from such mouth-watering dishes was a little more difficult.

I chose from the Table d’hôte menu and selected the Lancashire Cheese & Tomato Melt to start and the Famous Roast Goosnargh Duckling for my main course, whilst my partner chose from the A la Carte menu and selected the Prawns in Garlic Butter for a starter and Grilled Gammon Steak for his main course. The gammon came with optional egg, pineapple or cheese & onion topping.

All the main courses are served with fresh vegetables and seasonal potatoes, however the staff were more than accommodating when my partner asked for chips instead of boiled potatoes.

Once we had placed our meal order we were shown through to our table in the cosy dining room where we received complimentary bread rolls and butter.

Shortly after we were seated our starters arrived - what a treat!

My starter of delicious melted Lancashire cheese topped with grilled cherry tomatoes accompanied with 3 small slices of grilled crispy bread was simply divine! Equally appetising was my partner’s hot and tasty prawns with a creamy garlic sauce – a perfect size portion!

My main course certainly lived up to its “famous” reputation! The meal was a generous sized duck breast with a crispy skin and was so delicious and succulent it just fell apart and melted in the mouth. It was accompanied by a juicy gravy, apple sauce and stuffing - not a combination that I would have imagined with duck however it was perfect!

My partner’s main course was a generously thick slice of grilled gammon topped with pineapple and a tomato wedge. We were then brought our vegetables of fresh peas, carrots and leeks along with a huge platter of fresh hand cut home made chips! Everything we ate tasted so fresh and well prepared!

After the amazing starters and main courses it was very hard to find room for dessert - however we did! We were given a dessert menu to select from. I opted for Cheese & Biscuits and got to select my own cheeses, and chose Stilton, Wensleydale with Cranberries, Cheddar and Appledore whilst my partner indulged in the Hot Sticky Toffee Pudding which is served with cream or ice cream but yet again the staff were very accommodating when we asked for custard instead.

My cheese and biscuits came with a small bowl of fresh strawberries and a slice of star fruit and my partner’s sticky toffee pudding and custard was moist, rich and simply divine! Unfortunately the desserts beat us and we very reluctantly had to leave some.

We noticed on the back of the dessert menu there was a “Take Home Menu” which had a selection of dishes on it that you could take away to enjoy at home, including various dishes from roast pheasant to soup, along with locally made cheeses and honeys.

We were offered coffee to finish off our meal, however we had over indulged so much with the meal we decided against it.

Throughout the evening the staff were friendly, attentive and provided an excellent service, they were on the ball, very pleasant and professional even accommodating our requests to alter the dishes to suit our tastes.

The wine list had a fantastic selection from across the world - there really was something for all - from a glass of house wine to a bottle of top of the range Champagne!

Our visit to Ye Horns Inn was an extremely enjoyable one and neither of us could remember when we last had a meal as good as the one we had just eaten! We cannot wait to visit again either as a couple or with family and friends.
