The Wheatsheaf Restaurant Review

When we arrived at The Wheatsheaf we noticed immediately how traditional the pub feels. The large open bar area had a fantastic warm and friendly atmosphere.

We were greeted with a very friendly welcome and offered a choice of seating in either the bar area or the cosy dining area.

Once we were seated in the dining area we received our menus to select from, we had the option of the main lunch menu which featured a fantastic selection including hot or cold sandwiches, jacket potatos and lite bite main meals. From a separate menu we could choose to have any 2 main meals for £7.95, or for something really special there were two specials boards. One featured a fantastic selection of speciality baguettes and all day breakfasts and the other featured an array of delicious hot main meals. The menus were very easy to to look through, however the choice from such mouth watering dishes was a little more difficult!

After much deliberation we finally chose our lunch. I opted for the speciality Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Baguette, whilst my friend chose the Lite Bites 5oz Gammon Steak.

As we placed our order at the bar we also decided on our drinks and as we were both driving we decided against the vast selection of fruit flavoured wines and I decided to have Britvic 55 Apple whilst my friend opted for a refreshing J20 and also took the opportunity to read one of the daily newspapers that were on offer whilst waiting for our food to arrive.

My lunch was a delicious fresh, hot baguette filled with crispy iceberg lettuce and slices of tomato topped with griddled bacon slices and was presented on top of a generous portions of chips and fresh salad.

My friend’s lunch was a generous slice of grilled gammon topped with 2 rings of grilled pineapple and a fried egg, again presented on top of a portion of chips and fresh crispy salad.

My baguette was certainly worth every penny of the £4.95 charged and as for my friend’s gammon, we could not fault a thing - it was well worth £6.50.

As we were only there for lunch, we decided against desserts but settled for another refreshing drink before leaving.

Throughout the meal the staff were friendly, attentive and provided an excellent service.

They were all on the ball, very pleasant and even found time to come and chat with us once we had finished our meals.

Our visit to The Wheatsheaf was an extremely enjoyable one and we would highly recommend visiting as there is certainly a fantastic selection of food available from cream teas to 3 course meals. There is something for everyone and also looks to be plenty going on in the evenings from live entertainment to drinks offers and also a takeaway menu!
