The Walled Garden Bistro Restaurant Review

Arriving at The Walled Garden Bistro we entered in to a cosy atmosphere which was most welcoming on a cold evening. We were then shown to our table, received our menus and gave our drinks orders, I chose a small glass of rosé wine and my friend chose a pint of lager.
Whilst we perused the menu of the day (which is changed daily) we were brought complimentary slices of fresh warm Roast Tomato Bread and fresh warm Rosemary Bread and a jug of ice cold water.
Having such an extensive menu choosing just one dish was rather difficult. Spoilt for choice we finally decided on our meals, I chose the Sauté King Prawns, Ginger & Chilli Butter and Watercress to start and the Pan Fried Sea Bass with noisette potatoes, roast tomatoes, fine beans and shrimp butter sauce for my main whilst my friend chose the Sticky Baby Back Ribs, Hoi Sin and Barbeque Sauce and orange salad for starter and for his main course, Rib Eye Steak, chips, field mushrooms, vine tomatoes and red wine jus.
As we awaited our meals we admired the open brick walls with quirky comments framed including “come on, mek thee mind up”.
Ours starters arrived very swiftly - mine consisted of 5 delicious, plump, tender king prawns with a subtle ginger and chilli flavour accompanied by a watercress and rocket salad whilst my friend’s portion of spare ribs were succulent, juicy and melted in the mouth and the sauce was bursting with flavour – both dishes were very tasty and just the right size.
After the delicious starters we then awaited our main courses and as expected they looked mouthwatering.
My main course was a perfectly cooked portion of sea bass served on a bed of crunchy green beans accompanied by crispy noisette potatoes and roasted cherry tomatoes, drizzled with a heavenly creamy shrimp sauce.
My friend’s main course was a generous rib eye steak cooked to perfection, a portion of crispy chunky chips, roasted vine tomatoes, two large grilled field mushrooms and a small jug of red wine jus – a perfect traditional main course!!
After the amazing starters and main courses we were given the dessert menu to select from. I opted for the Cheese Slate with Chutney and Raisin bread and my friend chose the Fig & Toasted Almond Tart Tatin with vanilla bean ice cream and lavender caramel.
When the desserts arrived once again we were delighted! The cheese slate – served on actual slate – had a selection of 3 cheeses, a portion of butter, a small portion of grapes and a straw of hot fresh cooked raisin bread accompanied by a portion of fresh chutney – a perfect combination and end to a divine meal. My friend’s Tart Tatin was moist, crispy and chewy all at once, the fig and almonds were married together beautifully and the dish was finished off with ice cream and lavender caramel - every last mouthful was finished as it was so tasty!
Once we had finished our meal we then moved to the cosy bar area where we were joined by friends and enjoyed another drink on the comfy sofas.
During the meal the staff were friendly, courteous and very attentive, making our visit to The Walled Garden Bistro a pleasurable experience and a night to remember.
