NICE Bar Restaurant Review

I was recently invited with my family to try the new menu on offer at Nice Bar and Restaurant at the Storey Institute, close to the Castle in Lancaster.

When we arrived we were amazed by the comfortable modern bar area and contemporary styled restaurant, it was very relaxed. There was an eclectic mix of people dining that evening and, when I looked at the modern Mediterranean styled menu, it was easy to see why it attracts such a wide variety of people, there really was something to suit all tastes and pockets!

We opted to have a selection of warm breads, with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, butter and olives, as well as some Bruschetta Crostini with fresh tomatoes, basil crushed garlic and parmesan cheese, giving us time to choose our meals, so that we could enjoy a leisurely drink and savour the experience.

Our starters included a delicious Morecambe Bay Shrimp Platter, a warming Homemade Pepper and Courgette Soup and the piquant Hot Shredded Duck Salad.

Our main courses were Verdura Pizza - with thick lashings of ricotta cheese and fresh spinach on a rich tomato base, Salmon Farfalle - butterfly pasta in a rich cream and tomato sauce with smoked salmon, salmon fillet and prawns, Roasted Red Pepper filled with Vegetable Risotto – served with a green pesto jus and finally a succulent 8oz Fillet Steak – served with fat cut chips, roasted tomatoes and a port and stilton sauce.

After all that how could we eat anymore? But the desserts looked so good we couldn’t miss out! We decided to share our desserts, all of which were homemade and included Strawberry and Pink Champagne Jelly – served with fresh fruit, Pannacotta – served with caramelised oranges and fresh cream, Assiette of Chocolate – Chef’s selection of three chocolate based desserts and Speciality cheesecake – served with Lewis’s natural dairy ice cream.

Nice Bar and Restaurant has an extensive wine list to complement the wonderful food on the menu, as well as a wide selection of British beers and continental lagers.

Nice Bar and Restaurant is also open for private parties, weddings and functions. Nice also has a number of exciting events during the year, which will be publicised in Local Choice.
