Men's Summer Fashion
On average, women may spend more time and money on their wardrobes but fashion is definitely not just for the girls.
While many men might profess not to be particularly interested in fashion, they still like to look good. Male fashions do appear to change far less dramatically than the female ranges but each season still has its’ key looks. So, here’s our take on what’s hot for the guys this summer:
Cool blue - some of this summer’s styles for men complement those favoured by the ladies, especially when it comes to colour. Blue is one of the hottest colours to be seen in this summer, in all shades from pastel to royal, turquoise to aquamarine.
Classic combo - T-shirts and shorts are the ultimate summer staple and this summer is no exception. Go for the preppy look with striped polo shirts in coral, khaki or blue worn with slim fitting, longer length shorts. Or keep it casual with crew neck T-shirts bearing oversized logos on both the chest and back. These look equally good teamed with distressed denims or cargo shorts in khaki, navy or stone. If your legs aren’t cut out for shorts, fold up the legs of your chinos a couple of times and wear with deck shoes.
Blast from the past - many of this season’s fashions come from the re-kindling of our love affair with all things 80’s. Bold colours, fluorescent belts and neon watches are all back - for a while anyway!
Safari style - khaki, stone and pale, earthy tones in lightweight cotton shirts, shorts and combat pants make for a cool and comfortable yet stylish summer outfit. Look out for lightweight cotton canvas jackets - the perfect cover up if the British summer lets you down.
National pride - football shirts may not always be regarded as the coolest of fashion items but this month’s World Cup fever should see national loyalty reaching new heights. Expect to see the red and white of St George emblazoned on everything from shirts to sunglasses.
Carrot legs - if you haven’t come across them yet, where have you been? Forget the skinny leg, the carrot cut is the latest fashion must-have in both jeans and trousers. Cut straight through the thigh but tapered at the ankle, unlike skinnies they can be worn by men with muscular thighs.
The athletic look - sportswear becomes streetwear again this summer, but think going out not working out! Choose designer sportswear which was designed for looking good in - not getting sweaty in. Or try taking a tip from across the Atlantic, and get a couple of y-neck baseball style T-shirts instead.
Suit yourself - there’s never a time when suits aren’t in fashion and although styles fall in and out of favour, generally speaking, a good suit will always make you look fantastic. This summer, smart is sexy (when isn’t it?) and suits and shirts are slim fitting but not skinny. To keep right up to the minute, look out for shirts with piped edging and suit fabrics with added sheen.
And don’t forget the fancy footwear! Male footwear gets colourful this summer, so be bold and invest in a pair or two that aren’t black or brown! Leather loafers or deck shoes look great with jeans or chinos, so why not treat yourself to a pair in red or blue? Think you’re too young for loafers? Then get noticed with mustard coloured canvas lace ups or purple high top trainers.
Don’t forget the shades! A colourful pair of aviator style frames or preppy Wayfarers will add the finishing touch to your outfit and protect your eyes at the same time.
